Roster Move: Eagles Place Andrew Mukuba On IR, Sign Britain Covey

The Eagles have made a roster move official.

Unsurprisingly given Mukuba’s injury, the team placed the rookie on injured reserve.

With the open spot on the 53-man roster, the Eagles signed Britain Covey.

For some unknown reason, Xavier Gipson is still with the team.

Covey had begun to break out as a receiver for the Eagles when they had several injuries at the position last year, but suffered an injury that landed him on IR and then his season ended with another IR placement. He signed with LA in the offseason, but wound up on the Eagles practice squad after final cuts.

His role now would seem to be as the return man as Gipson is injured but also is just a straight awful option who fumbles on well over 30% of his touches, like he did in Dallas, and continually attempts to field stupid returns from inside the five, also like he did in Dallas. Frankly, there is no reason he should still be getting paid by the Eagles and wasting a roster spot in the process.

Covey, in his last season without injury, averaged over 14 yards per punt return and 30 yards per kick return. He led the league in punt return yardage in 2023.

Additionally, Luke Felix-Fualalo, an offensive lineman who has been on the practice squad since August just after the roster cutdowns and joined the team among the original transactions that brough Marcus Epps and Britain Covey back to the team, as also placed on IR.

That leaves the Eagles an extra spot to return a player to the practice squad or sign a new option to work into a role in addition to the spot Covey just vacated.
