Today the Phillies' television schedule breakdown was released. With only about a month to go before the first Spring Training game is aired, the team is running out of time to fill the broadcast booth job. One name that has been occasionally mentioned in passing is Jamie Moyer. But today, Phillies.com's Todd Zolecki reports that Moyer is a candidate for the job.
Zolecki wrote that Moyer interviewed for the position this week and is excited about the idea of having the job:
"The more I've thought about it and the more time I've spent with the people at Comcast, it's allowed me to reflect a little bit on my childhood and think about all the great broadcasters I grew up listening to," Moyer said Wednesday. "To be a part of that rich history would be pretty exciting."
According to Zolecki, four candidates remain:
Multiple sources said the top candidates are: Moyer, who has worked as an analyst with ESPN; Mitch Williams, who works at MLB Network and has partnered in the booth with McCarthy at FOX; Mickey Morandini, who is a coach with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and has performed postgame analysis with the Cubs; and Kevin Stocker, who receives glowing reviews for his work with the Pac-12 and CBS Sports networks. Some are giving Moyer and Williams an edge.
For Williams to take the job, he would have to leave his MLB Network position. Williams before seemed to indicate that it would be hard to get him to leave that job. Williams worked for Comcast SportsNet for many years as the co-host of Phillies Post Game Live and may be a top target of Comcast, who will decide who will hold the position.
One name out of the running is former Phillies outfielder Doug Glanville. Zolecki reported that Glanville has withdrawn his name from consideration. Glanville too has a nice national job on ESPN and may not wish to leave.
