The Phillies outfield will go through plenty of different combinations in 2017 with Odubel Herrera, Howie Kendrick, Roman Quinn, Aaron Altherr in the mix currently while Nick Williams and Dylan Cozens could break through into the big leagues at some point during the season.
Martinez slashed .307/.373/.535 last season, hitting 35 doubles, 22 homers and 68 RBIs. In six seasons at the Major League level, Martinez has a career .281 average between the Astros and Tigers. He is set to make $11.75 million during the 2017 season.
While the Phils have plenty of young outfielders in the wings, acquiring Martinez gives them the opportunity to flip him at the deadline for some higher-ranked prospects.
