Bolden, Smith headline Sixers Summer League roster

The Philadelphia 76ers kick-off Summer League play this evening and on Thursday, the organization officially unveiled their roster for the exhibition tournament. For the first time, all 30 teams will participate in Summer League, running from July 6-17 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada. As in year's past, it will be a tournament-style league with the Championship Game being played on July 17. Each team will play a minimum of five games. After three preliminary games, the teams will be seeded in the tournament, which will begin on July 11.

Here's a look at Philadelphia's roster heading into play:

There's a good mix of players in the group, but four players to really watch. 2018 first-rounders Zhaire Smith and Landry Shamet get their first taste of NBA action while Jonah Bolden and Furkan Korkmaz both return to Summer League play looking to prove that they belong on the Sixers' roster.

Selected 16th overall by the Suns before getting traded to Philadelphia, Zhaire Smith enters the Summer League with seemingly less to prove than the organization's past couple of first-round picks, both of which were No. 1. In his lone season for Texas Tech, the 19-year-old guard averaged 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the arc. Smith holds a lot of raw talent and may take a season or two to develop, but his athleticism alone should make him an exciting player to watch.

The Sixers used the 26th pick in the draft to select Wichita State's Landry Shamet, a name not many had heard about before. With nearly a 7-foot wingspan, Shamet poses some matchup problems for his defenders with the ability to score in many different ways. In college, he was a strong catch-and-shoot guy and if he wants to solidify some regular season minutes, his shooting is what will get him there. In his third and final college season, Shamet averaged 14.9 points on 48.9 shooting and 44.2 percent from downtown.

Returning for a second straight Summer League year is Sixers draft-and-stash prospect, Jonah Bolden. Bolden averaged 7.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in Israeli League competition and 6.9 points, 5.5 rebounds in Euroleague action this past year. Drafted 36th overall in 2017, it is widely believed that Bolden will be on the Sixers this season and he told Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer just that on Tuesday at practice. Bolden's buyout from Maccabi Tel Aviv is $400,000.

After a foot injury sidelined him for the majority of last season, Furkan Korkmaz will hit the court with the main goal of proving that he can keep up with the pace of the NBA and be a solid defender. In Korkmaz's limited action, when the Sixers were either winning or losing by a lot, his three-point shot is what stood out most, but he'll need to get a little more athletic to keep up with NBA forwards if he plans to stick in the league. Korkmaz played in 14 games last season with the Sixers and nine with their G-League team, where he averaged 15.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists, shooting 35.3 percent from the floor.

The Sixers' first Summer League game against Boston will be televised tonight at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. They will play the Lakers on Saturday and Wizards on Monday before the tournament rounds begin on July 11.
