Report: Sixers getting closer to a deal for Wolves PG Jones

With the preseason all wrapped up, the Philadelphia 76ers have some roster decisions to make before finalizing their 15-man squad for Opening Night on October 26. Earlier in the week, the Sixers were mentioned as one of several teams interested in Timberwolves point guard, Tyus Jones. It seems like talks are getting a little more serious on Saturday, with one report indicating the two sides getting closer to a deal.

There's no question that if Minnesota wants a big man, the Sixers have a surplus of them. Jerami Grant and Richaun Holmes would be the two likely involved in the discussions, both of whom have had strong preseasons. Grant has been playing the three and four while Holmes has played primarily center, backing up Joel Embiid.

Meanwhile, Jones was selected 24th overall by the Cavaliers in the 2015 NBA Draft, but was immediately dealt to Minnesota in exchange for two 2015 second round picks. The former Duke guard had a lackluster first season with the Wolves, averaging just 4.2 points and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 35.9 percent from the floor.

He turned some heads during this year's Summer League en route to winning the Most Valuable Player award. He played in seven games for Minnesota and averaged 19.4 points per game on 45.7 percent shooting to go along with 6.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds. His best game came on July 17, when he scored 29 points on 9-for-17 shooting while also dishing out six assists and grabbing three rebounds.

Jones averaged 4.2 points per game, shooting 50 percent from the floor in the preseason.
