Final: Marlins 5, Phillies 4 ❖ Attendance: 20, 059
Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Phillies got an early lead in Sunday's series finale, but Hector Neris surrendered three runs in the eighth as the Miami Marlins avoided the sweep with a 5-4 win.
Leading 4-2 heading to the eighth, Neris hit a batter and then allowed a game-tying two-run homer to Christian Yelich. An RBI-single from J.T. Realmuto plated an unearned run, giving the Marlins the lead. A defensive mishap in the eighth proved costly as well, as a routine pop-up was dropped just beyond the first base dirt. Both Tommy Joseph and Cesar Hernandez were in pursuit and the ball went in and out of Cesar's glove, allowing Ozuna to reach second and eventually score on Realmuto's single with two outs when the inning could have been over in a tie.
Freddy Galvis hit his 20th homer of the season this afternoon, giving the Phillies four infielders with 20 home runs for the first time in franchise history. Ryan Howard (22), Tommy Joseph (20) and Maikel Franco (22) have each made it to the 20 home run mark this season for the Phillies. Odubel Herrera also hit a home run today.
The Phillies have a day off before hosting the Chicago White Sox for a two-game series beginning on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Jake Thompson will get the start for Philadelphia against veteran right-hander James Shields.

In the first, Roman Quinn walked with one out and Odubel Herrera singled. Tommy Joseph followed with an RBI-single up the middle, scoring Quinn, to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. After a Maikel Franco fly out, Freddy Galvis plated Herrera with an RBI-single to make it 2-0.
Odubel Herrera led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer, his 14th of the season, extending the Phillies lead to 3-0.
Miami got on the board in the fifth. Alec Asher hit Jeff Mathis and allowed a single to Adeiny Hechavarria. Two batters later Dee Gordon singled to score Mathis, the Marlins' first run since the eighth inning on Friday night. Derek Dietrich followed with an RBI-single of his own, bringing Hechavarria in from third, cutting the Phillies lead to 3-2 and spelling the end to Alec Asher's day. Southpaw Joely Rodriguez came in and induced an inning-ending double play to put a stop to the Marlins threat and preserve the lead.
Freddy Galvis belted his 20th homer of the year with one down in the bottom of the sixth to give the Phillies some padding, putting them back up by two, 4-2.
The Marlins took the lead in the eighth against Hector Neris, who walked Dietrich to start the frame. Two batters later, Christian Yelich laced a two-run homer just inside the left field foul pole to tie the game at 4-4. Marcell Ozuna reached second on a catching error by Cesar Hernandez, who had trouble communicating with Tommy Joseph, who also pursued the dropped routine pop up. J.T. Realmuto hit an RBI-single to plate Ozuna and give the Marlins their first lead of the game, 5-4.
