Eagles Trade Sam Bradford as the Only Move for a Bright Future

Howie Roseman, the Philadelphia Eagles executive vice president of football operations decided to trade Sam Bradford exactly eight days before opening day. This is quite a historic move and fans will be focused on the Eagles to see how Chase Daniels copes with the QB position to help his team win their first playoff match in eight years. The NFC East teams will be tough to watch, with the Cowboys without Tony Romo, the Giants having a porous defense, and the Redskins greatly depending on Kirk Cousins, an indefinite player even as NFL betting lines zoom in on the new season.

However, it seem everyone knew that Sam Bradford was not included in the long-standing future of this franchise. Bradford left immediately the Eagles traded up to No. 2. This means that if QB Bradford played another season with the eagles, this would only postpone Wentz’s development for another year. Perhaps he could have helped his former team to win at least two games for a couple of weeks if Chase Daniel played alongside Wentz. But it beats logic if both options take them to the playoffs or the Super Bowl.

Roseman’s decision to trade Bradford was uncalled for because he even rejected a first-round pick for next year. Bradford is an adorable player who showed his exclusive talent in the second half of last season and continued to look sharper this preseason. But I don’t think trading him approximately one week before opening day will lead to anything better for the Eagles because it they don’t reach the Super Bowl, the deal is deemed useless. Even though Bradford seemed calm after Wentz pick materialized, extending his contract generated an unbearable situation because he seemed to know that his current team wanted him out.

Evidently, Roseman remains the mastermind of this situation at the Eagles, but he countered the move by trading Bradford for a 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 fourth-round pick to the fraught Vikings. Therefore, quarterback Wentz has an uphill task to ensure the Eagles win something in the next five years. But Wentz rib injury has not yet healed fully, meaning he might miss out the opener against the Browns. Daniel will be the definite replacement at QB maybe for the first two weeks, then he will simply melt down to a mere footnote.

Another concern is that Wentz injury has not allowed him to neither practice nor play any match and it is advisable not to rush him in the squad until he is fully ready irrespective of their opponent. Over the years, the Eagles have been transitioning from one QB to another, starting with Donovan McNabb, then Kevin Kolb, Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez and the recently traded Sam Bradford and the current Chase Daniel, all of whom have not made any big difference.

Since the 1998-99 season, the Eagles have not experienced consecutive losing seasons. They are among the seven NFL teams that have not endured uninterrupted losing seasons in the past seventeen years. Wentz will be under pressure this season and he might struggle since he is still unfit from not playing or practicing during preseason. However, now is time to focus on the future and QB Wentz has the helm of it in his hands to help the Eagles forget the long gone quarterbacks who performed dismally.
