With the start of September, hockey is right around the corner. The World Cup of Hockey will slightly delay the NHL season, but training camps are scheduled for midway through the month and the preseason begins in the final week of September.
The Flyers announced their local broadcast schedule for the 2016-17 season. 70 of the 82 games will be broadcast locally, 58 airing on CSN Philly, 12 on The Comcast Network. The remaining 12 games will be nationally televised with nine game airing on NBCSN and three games airing on NBC.
The Flyers will also televise three preseason games. The Flyers-Islanders game on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m., Flyers-Devils from PPL Center on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. and the Flyers-Rangers game on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. The first two games will be on TCN and the last telecast will be on CSN.
The Flyers familiar broadcast teams return for another season. On television, Jim Jackson resumes his role as play-by-play announcer with Keith Jones and Bill Clement serving as color analysts and Chris Therien reporting from rinkside.
All Flyers games will be broadcast on radio on 97.5 The Fanatic and 93.3 WMMR with Tim Saunders and Steve Coates resuming their roles as radio broadcasters. In addition to the three games on television, at least five preseason games will be broadcast on radio including the Flyers split-squad game against New Jersey on Sept. 26.
The Flyers also announced five changes in start times to accommodate the Philadelphia 76ers NBA schedule. They are as follows:
- Oct. 25 vs. Buffalo Sabres 7:30 p.m.
- Nov. 27 vs. Calgary Flames 7:30 p.m.
- Nov. 29 vs. Boston Bruins 7:30 p.m.
- March 7 at Buffalo Sabres 7:30 p.m.
- March 19 vs. Carolina Hurricanes 7:30 p.m.
