The deal between Philadelphia ans Utah is a salary dump move for the Jazz, who plan to waive Marshall prior to his contract becoming guaranteed on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Sixers will take on the $3 million in guaranteed money owed to Tibor Pleiss this year along with the $500,000 guaranteed of his $3.1 million salary for the 2017-18 season.
Marshall, 25, was one of the veterans Sam Hinkie brought into the mix last season, but with the additions of Jerryd Bayless and Gerald Henderson, there was no room for him on the roster. He injured his ACL prior to the season and was limited to just 30 games after some believed he would be the teams' starting point guard. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.4 assists per game.
Tibor Pleiss was a second round pick of the Nets in 2010 and his rights were moved three different times, landing him with the Jazz last offseason. He jumped back and forth between the Jazz and their D-League affiliate in 2015-16. He appeared in 12 games for the Jazz, averaging two points and 1.3 rebounds. Philadelphia could very well waive Pleiss or have him start the year with the Delaware 87ers if they choose.
