Led by Defense, Eagles Blank Steelers

The Eagles defense came up with five turnovers in the preseason opener last Thursday against the Buccaneers. They did their best to come up with a repeat performance in Week 2 this Thursday.

Four first-half interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown by Nolan Carroll, helped lead the Eagles to a second-straight win by a score of 17-0 over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Scoring Summary

  1 2 3 4 T
Eagles 7 3 7 0 17
Steelers 0 0 0 0 0

The Eagles opened the scoring midway through the first quarter as Carroll jumped in front of a Landry Jones pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown.

The defense would come up with four interceptions in the first half off Jones and turned the last one into another score as Cody Parkey connected on a 40-yard field goal with three seconds remaining in the first half.

The second half opened with an 87-yard drive by the Eagles, capped off by a five-yard touchdown run by Kenjon Barner.

The Eagles defense held the Steelers off the board the rest of the way. Despite not putting together a strong offensive drive for the rest of the game, it was the defense that starred in the win.
