The Phillies jumped out to an early lead in the first. Cesar Hernandez led off the inning with a single, reaching base for the 20th straight game. Joseph worked a two-out walk. Franco followed by swinging at the first pitch and belting it to centerfield for a three-run home run. It was Franco's 21st home run of the season.

When Franco came up to the plate again in the fourth, Anderson's first pitch hit him on the left knee. Anderson was ejected and the benches cleared briefly. Rockies manager Walt Weiss was also ejected. Franco scored later in the inning on an RBI single by Freddy Galvis.

Jerad Eickhoff worked around a few baserunners through the first five innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth. In the sixth, the Rockies finally got on the board as Daniel Descalso belted a two-run home run to right. Two batters later, Tony Wolters hit a solo home run to right to cut the lead to one.

The Phillies would get an insurance run back in the seventh. With two on and one out, Aaron Altherr hit an RBI single up the middle to put the Phillies lead back to two. Joseph followed that up with a long fly ball to center that was caught by a leaping Charlie Blackmon, but scored Peter Bourjos on a sacrifice fly.
