Wolf announced this Spring his plans to retire. However, Wolf will more formally do so this week. Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that on August 13, during the Alumni Weekend festivities at Citizens Bank Park, Wolf will formally retire as a member of the Phillies.
The Phillies tried to re-sign Wolf after the 2006 season when Wolf hit free agency. Instead of signing a multi-year deal with the Phillies, Wolf instead decided to sign a one-year deal with his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies signed Adam Eaton instead. After 2007, the Phillies tried to sign Wolf once again, to no avail. Wolf signed with the San Diego Padres for 2008.
Wolf missed the Phillies five- year playoff run by departing when he did. However, Wolf appeared in the playoffs in 2009 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and then again in 2011 with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Wolf went 133-125 with a 4.24 earned run average for eight different teams in his big league career. After missing the 2013 season with an injury, Wolf appeared briefly in the Majors for the Marlins in 2014. In 2015 Wolf turned down an Opening Day rotation slot with the Seattle Mariners when they tried to alter his contract. Wolf signed with the Toronto Blue Jays thereafter, but finally appeared in the big leagues in August for the Detroit Tigers. Wolf appeared in eight games in 2015.
There is no word whether or not the "Wolf Pack" plans to make an appearance.
