Eagles Nuggets: Team had ‘real interest’ in Anquan Boldin

Veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin signed with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, but the Eagles were apparently players in trying to obtain the wideout's services.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Eagles had "real interest" in Boldin.

Rapoport also notes that the New Orleans Saints had interest as well.

Boldin signed a one-year deal with the Lions. The Eagles did have a need for a quality veteran receiver despite the presence of potential starters in Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor. In addition to Matthews and Agholor, the Eagles have nine other receivers currently on the roster — Rueben Randle, Josh Huff, Chris Givens, Marcus Johnson, T.J. Graham, Cayleb Jones, Xavier Rush, Hunter Sharp and Paul Turner.

The 36-year-old receiver has played in 186 games in his 13-year career. He spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers after a three-year stay with the Baltimore Ravens. Boldin established himself as one of the better receivers in the game with seven seasons in Arizona.

Overall, Boldin has 1,009 catches for 13,195 yards and 74 touchdowns. Last season, Boldin had 69 catches for 789 yards and four touchdowns with the 49ers.
