Final: Pirates 5, Phillies 4 ❖ Attendance: 32,439
Pittsburgh, PA - The Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates hit two home runs each, but it was Adam Frazier's solo blast that proved the be the difference in Sunday's series finale, which ended in favor of Pittsburgh, 5-4. The game included a storm that delayed things for over an hour and a half.
Vince Velasquez struggled with command for a majority of the game, piling up his pitch count inning by inning. He was at 90 pitches through five innings, walked four and allowed four runs. Offensively, Cesar Hernandez raised his average to .286, going 3-for-5 with an RBI-triple out of the lead-off spot. Ryan Howard went 2-for-3 and Odubel Herrera hit his 11th home run of the season.
Meanwhile, Andres Blanco left the game in the fifth after a caught stealing play at third base with what was later diagnosed as a fractured left index finger. It looked like Gregory Polanco may have gotten one of his spikes into Blanco's hand.
The Phillies head to Miami for a three-game series with the Marlins beginning tomorrow at 7:10 pm. Jeremy Hellickson is scheduled to start for Philadelphia. Miami has yet to announce a starter.
