VIDEO: Claude Giroux Makes Return to the ice

If you’re looking for a small taste of hockey in the dog days of July, this should help quench your thirst.

Flyers captain Claude Giroux had offseason surgery on his hip and abdomen to repair a sports hernia. The recovery was expected to take 10-12 weeks. The surgery took place on May 17.

Giroux made his return to the ice just over two months later on Wednesday at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. Equipment manager Derek Settlemyre posted video to Instagram of Giroux skating with the puck and firing a high shot to the glove side of goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who was also skating on Wednesday.

It may be the summer months and Giroux may be taking it easy, being fresh off surgery, but it’s still a great site to see the Flyers captain back on the ice and looking good to this point in his recovery.

Giroux has been going through the recovery process with Shayne Gostisbehere. The Flyers defenseman had his surgery on the same day as Giroux and faces the same timetable. He is expected to begin skating again soon as well.
