The Philadelphia 76ers have a unique problem they need to solve at some point with a logjam of talented, young players in the front court. If you've been paying attention to the Summer League, even without Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid, the Sixers have a lot of height. Ben Simmons is 6-10 and both Christian Wood and Richaun Holmes are around that height, hoping to crack the teams' 15-man roster. Add in Dario Saric, and you have a little bit of an issue getting everyone playing time that allows development for young players.
Despite the amount of guys the Sixers have over 6-foot-10, president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said in an interview on SiriusXM Radio that he won't make a trade just to shed a big man, but will rather scope out a deal that can add to their roster in spots that are needed.
“What we are comfortable doing is saying we’re not going to make a bad deal just to make a deal,” the Sixers GM said. “I think we could be a better basketball team if we could distribute that talent better, and maybe take one of those assets and address other needs on the roster. But I think right now, it’s best to say we like all of them [and] we want to see if we can make the most out of each of them in terms of their contributions to this team. At the end of the day, the reality says one probably has to go at some point — but only when the deal is right.”
Things are getting tight on the Sixers 15-man roster right now and with Dario Saric likely joining the team, it seems like Holmes and Wood will battle it out for the final spot. As of now here's what the roster projects to be, with one man too many. It is yet to be determined as to whether or not No. 24 overall pick Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will start with the team or in D-League. Nik Stauskas could also see some D-League time if he continues to struggle.
