For one day during the 2016 season, Philadelphia Phillies fans got a chance to laugh at Boston Red Sox fans Friday.
The Red Sox announced this afternoon that they acquired former Phillies utility man Michael Martinez from the Cleveland Indians.

Martinez, affectionately (?) nicknamed "Mini-mart," played for the Phillies for parts of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons. During his 162 games with the Phillies, Martinez hit just .182 with a .214 on-base percentage. Martinez's most valuable attribute with the club was his ability to play both multiple infield positions and multiple outfield positions.

The 33-year-old has since played with both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cleveland Indians. Martinez played in 32 games for the Indians in 2016, batting .283 with one home run and three RBIs.
Martinez was added to the 40-man roster, according to the team, with manager John Farrell telling WEEI's Ryan Hannable that Martinez will serve in a bench role for the Red Sox, who also acquired veteran infielder Aaron Hill this week.
