PHILADELPHIA-Jerad Eickhoff pitched yet another solid game for the Phillies en route to his sixth win of the season.
In nearly eight innings of work, Eickhoff struck out eight and allowed only five hits. After allowing a solo homer to the second batter of the game, Eickhoff coasted until the seventh when back-to-back singles disrupted his groove. He was able to strand runners at first and third in the seventh, however, a Nick Markakis single scored Freddie Freeman in the eighth, which led to Eickhoff's exit from the game.

Jerad Eickhoff won his second straight decision this afternoon after pitching another solid start – he hasn't given up more than three runs in his last seven games.
Luckily, Eickhoff had a hefty cushion provided for him in the second inning when the Phillies scored their season-high for runs in an inning with seven. Cameron Rupp doubled to start off the second, extending his hit streak to ten games. Next, Tommy Joseph smacked a double to center field as well, putting runners on second and third. Freddy Galvis grounded to first to bring the first run home, which was followed by a Cesar Hernandez triple that missed being a home run over the right field wall by just a couple feet.
After Eickhoff attempted a sacrifice bunt that resulted in an error by the Braves on the throw home, Odubel Herrera hit his 10th home run of the season to right field. Peter Bourjos then doubled to left, and Maikel Franco capped the seven run inning with a two-run home run of his own to left center field.
Joel De La Cruz did not have a great showing in his second career MLB game. After going six innings and allowing three runs to the Indians, De La Cruz gave up nine hits and four earned runs.
Tommy Joseph scored an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning, singling a 101 mph fastball from Mauricio Cabrera to right field, scoring Peter Bourjos.
The Phils got another run in the bottom of the fifth, as Gee allowed a one-out single to Odubel Herrera and a walk to Peter Bourjos. Cody Asche moved both runners over with a groundout to first, then Maikel Franco's swinging bunt found space up the third-base line to score Herrera and make it 5–2.
The Phillies have now won seven of their last nine. Coming up next, Zach Eflin faces off against Mike Foltynewicz and the Braves in the second game of the series at 7:05 pm.
