The Phillies struck a deal with the Blue Jays today, acquiring infielder/outfielder Jimmy Paredes for cash considerations.

Philadelphia had put on claim on Paredes in mid-May before the Blue Jays swept in to sign him. On Monday, Toronto designated the 27-year-old or assignment since they needed to add a reliever to their roster. He hit .267 (4-for-17) in seven games with the Blue Jays and owns  a .257/.294/.373 slash line over six years in the majors between the Orioles, Blue Jays, Royals and Astros. Paredes is a switch hitter and can play second base, third base and both right and left field.

To make room for Paredes on the both the 40-man and 25-man rosters, the Phillies transferred Charlie Morton to the 60-day disabled list and designated Emmanuel Burriss for assignment.

Burriss hit just .121 (4-for-33) this season in red pinstripes.
