Report: Evgeny Medvedev faces drug, DUI charges

Evgeny Medvedev will face five charges for driving under the influence, as well as possession of a controlled substance and possession or use of drug paraphernalia, following his arrest for suspicion of DUI in Lower Moreland Township last month.

Medvedev will face five drug and DUI offenses, as reported on Friday by Philly.com's Laura McCrystal. He has also been cited for disregarding traffic lanes, driving without a license and not using headlights, and faces a preliminary hearing on June 15.

While the arrest took place in the early-morning hours of April 27, Medvedev had not yet been charged, as police were waiting on toxicology results. He was found to have a blood alcohol content of .16 percent — double the legal limit.

In his first NHL season, the 33-year-old Russian blueliner scored four goals and recorded 12 points in 45 games. Flyers GM Ron Hextall had previously expressed that the team will not look to retain his services for next season, and this would appear to only validate that.

As per Sportsnet's John Shannon, he will also be automatically placed in the NHL/NHLPA substance abuse program.
