The Eagles have the quarterback prospect.
With the second overall pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft, the Eagles selected Carson Wentz from North Dakota State.
Wentz fell to the Eagles after Jared Goff went first overall to the Los Angeles Rams.
Wentz is the first quarterback drafted by the Eagles since Matt Barkley in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Eagles had acquired the second overall pick via trade from the Cleveland Browns on April 20 for five draft picks, including the 8th overall pick, a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick in 2016.
Wentz was a two-year starter with North Dakota State, winning back-to-back Division I FCS National Championships in his final two seasons and threw for 1,651 yards and 17 touchdowns with four interceptions in eight games in 2015.
Wentz also rushed for 294 yards on 63 attempts and six touchdowns in his senior season.
Wentz joins Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel on the roster at the quarterback position.
Wentz is also the sixth Eagles draft pick selected with the second overall pick in the Draft. The Eagles selected quarterback Donovan McNabb with the No. 2 pick in 1999, guard Bob Brown in 1964, back Joe Muha in 1943, back George McAfee in 1940 and back Jim McDonald in 1938.
The Eagles are back on the clock with the 79th overall pick in the third round as part of Day 2. It is their only Day 2 pick.
