PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies have outrighted outfielder Cedric Hunter off of their 40-man roster, as he has cleared waivers a week after being optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Hunter, 27, hit .088/.139/.176 in 13 games this season, with just three hits over 36 plate appearances and 34 at-bats. His only extra-base hit was a solo home run — the first of his career — against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Robert Stephenson on April 7.
No corresponding move has yet been made to replace Hunter on the 40-man roster, which now stands at 39 with 21 pitchers and 18 position players.
Hunter has six hits in 18 at-bats with the IronPigs since being sent down on April 18.
