Final: Reds 3, Phillies 2 ❖ Attendance: 21,621
Cincinnati, OH – On a rainy night at Great American Ball Park, the Philadelphia Phillies (0-2) scored just two runs to support a dominant performance by Aaron Nola and entered the final inning with the lead. Unfortunately, Dalier Hinojosa blew his first attempt at a save and the Cincinnati Reds (2-0) walked off in the ninth.
A two-run homer off the bat of Maikel Franco in the first inning provided the lone offense and Aaron Nola struck out a career-high eight batters in the loss. The Phillies bullpen blew the lead on Monday and they did the same tonight. After David Hernandez tossed a scoreless eighth, Dalier Hinojosa loaded the bases with one down and allowed Scott Schebler to walk it off with a two-run double to win it for the Reds.
The Phillies will look to salvage a game from their opening series on Thursday afternoon at 12:35pm. Charlie Morton will go for Philadelphia while Cincinnati will send Robert Stephenson to the hill.

The Phillies jumped on top in the first. After two quick outs, Odubel Herrera reached on an infield single and Maikel Franco followed with a powerful, opposite-field two-run home run to right center with the wind going about 20mph out to left field. With the score 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Aaron Nola served up a solo home run to Eugenio Suarez with one out, cutting the lead in half, 2-1.
After a scoreless frame from David Hernandez in the eighth, Dalier Hinojosa entered the game for his for save opportunity of the season. Eugenio Suarez singled to lead things off in the ninth, Devin Mesoraco reached on an infield single with one down and Jay Bruce followed with a single to load the bases. Scott Schebler took Hinojosa's 2-2 offering to the gap in left center for a two-run double to win it for the Reds, 3-2.
Two games into the season, the Phillies offense hasn't showed much fight at all, going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position on Monday and 0-for-6 tonight, scoring just four total runs. You can blame the bullpen, but the offense hasn't given pitching any cushion over the first two games.
