Manager Robin Ventura told a group of reporters, which included Chuck Garfien of Comcast SportsNet Chicago, that Rollins will be the team's Opening Day shortstop.
This news doesn't necessarily come as a surprise. Ventura suggested in early March that unless Rollins were to get injured, he was likely to make the club after signing a minor league deal with the team in February.
Rollins, 37, is the Phillies' all-time hits leader. The 1996 second round pick, won four gold gloves, the 2007 National League MVP and the 2008 World Series with the club. The Phillies traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers last off-season, where Rollins posted career lows in both batting average and UZR.
