On the same day that newly signed outfielder Will Venable is set to make his Philadelphia Phillies' debut, one other Phillies outfielder is re-starting his rehab process after suffering a set-back.
According to Meghan Montemurro of The News Journal, Cody Asche re-aggravated his oblique injured this past weekend.
It could be weeks before Cody Asche is ready to return to the Phillies.
Asche re-aggravated his right oblique on a swing and miss during his second at-bat of a minor league game Saturday. He was already slated to begin the season on the disabled list, but he could have missed only a week of the regular season because the Phillies could backdate the start of his DL stint.
Asche, who entered camp hoping to compete for a starting outfield job, missed all of Spring Training with this injury. He was going to begin the season on the disabled list regardless of how this past weekend's game went, but the re-injury probably means he will miss at least the first month of the season.
The 25-year-old entered Spring Training as an outfielder for the first time, after his mid-season transition from third-base following Maikel Franco's call-up last year.
In just shy of 1,000 career at-bats, Asche has a slash line of .246/.301/.392.
