Since the start of Phillies minor league camp, the Class 'A' Lakewood Blueclaws have been tracking each minor league game a putting out the highlights on their Blueclaws Blog. After being rained out on Saturday, the Phils minor league squads were back in action on Sunday. All four teams came away with wins. Here are some of the notable stats:
Triple-A: 8-1 win
- Mark Appel, who came over to the Phillies in the Ken Giles trade with Houston, started for the Phillies Triple-A team and hurled four shutout innings, striking out three while allowing just two hits. Appel could see some action at the big league level this season if he pitches well in Triple-A, especially if any of the Phillies starters go down with an injury. He's ranked as the Phillies second best prospect by MLB Pipeline.
- On offense, the Triple-A Phillies were led by Cameron Perkins. The 25-year-old outfielder went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI's. Last season, he hit .252 with Double-A Reading, but finished the year strong with a .343 average over his last 10 games.
- Taylor Featherston, sent down to the minors late last week, went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the 8-1 Triple-A win
Double-A: 5-3 win
- Acquired last season for Jonathan Papelbon from the Nationals, Nick Pivetta went 9-8 with a 3.86 ERA between Washington and Philadelphia's Double-A teams. Yesterday, he allowed two runs in three innings and struck out five. Pivetta struggled with Double-A Reading, going 2-2 with a 7.71 ERA in seven starts, so expect to see him back there to start the 2016 season
- Malquin Canelo and Zach Green both doubled in the teams' 5-3 win. Canelo scored twice while Green scored once. Carlos Tocci also notched two hits on the day. Canelo is ranked as the 24th prospect in the organization. Tocci comes in at number 23.
Advanced-A: 4-2 win
- Thomas Eshelman, ranked as the Phillies 13th overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, came over in the Ken Giles trade as well with Mark Appel and Vince Velasquez. Eshelman gave up two runs in three innings of work.
- Andrew Bailey, a candidate for the Phillies closer job, appeared in this minor league game and allowed a run while striking out four in 1.1 innings of work.
- Outfielder Josh Tobias, selected by the Phillies in the 10th round of the 2015 draft, went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Tobias, 23, hit .321 with 19 doubles, three triples, four homers, 37 RBI's and 31 runs scored with Short Season Williamsport in 2015.
Low-A: 3-0 win
- Franklyn Kilome, ranked as the Phillies eighth overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, was one of four pitchers to combine for a shutout in this game. He allowed just one hit and struck out three over three innings on the mound. Kilome, 20, went 3-2 with a 3.28 with Williamsport last season.
- The Phillies 30th best prospect, Elniery Garcia, also tossed three innings and struck out three.
- Selected 10th overall by the Phillies in 2015, Cornelius Randolph saw his first action of the spring on Sunday. He went 1-for-4 and played left field. He hit .302 with 15 doubles, three triples, a home run, 24 RBI's and 34 runs last season with the GCL Phillies. He struck out as many times as he walked as well, 34.
The teams will be back in action today at 1pm against the Pirates minor leaguers.
