The Sixers close a 24 point gap, but cannot come through with a win.
The Washington Wizards beat the Sixers 99-94 Thursday night. They were unable to complete a tremendous comeback after trailing by as much as 24. Poor free throw shooting late allowed the Wizards to eke out the win.
The first half was not the best half for the Sixers. They did not have any substantial leads. The Wizards walked all over the Sixers outscoring them 58-37.
The second half was a completely different story; they beat the Wizards 55-41. The Sixers had a real chance to complete the comeback, but the young Sixers seemed to choke under the late game pressure.
John Wall killed the Sixers (as he often does). He recorded his second triple-double in as many games. Every Wizard starter ended up in double figures. They severely outrebounded the Sixers (60-40) and had 12 offensive rebounds. They won the game on the boards.
The Sixers put up a valiant effort after trailing by as much as 24. Every Sixer starter ended the game in double figures as well. They did not shoot well from three (6-33), but late threes allowed them to come close to a win. Ish Smith and Nerlens Noel had 20 and 14 points respectively, and Noel finished with a double-double (16 reb).
This was another disappointing effort by the Sixers. They made a comeback, but this is a game they should have won. They had the game, but could not make late game free-throws. They will attempt to crack double digits in the win column when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday.
