The Phillies have suffered two key outfield injuries thus far. First, Aaron Altherr dove to his left in right field Friday, March 4 and injured his wrist to the point he needs surgery. Then, Cody Asche's revealed that his oblique required that he would miss significant time too. Now, word comes that a third outfielder is out.
Center fielder Odubel Herrera revealed a finger injury on SnapChat Sunday afternoon. Along with a picture of his injured finger is the caption, "Mi pobre dediitoo". In English, that is, "my poor finger".
The finger is Herrera's middle right-hand finger. Whether it is a break or a sprain or something else – remains to be seen. Either way it is a tough break for the Phillies.
If Herrera misses time, Peter Bourjos is likely to man center field. Tyler Goeddel is a near lock to make the outfield. The openings could mean that Darin Ruf returns to the outfield and that David Lough gets a shot at the Major League squad. Darnell Sweeney got a shot a center field Saturday, too.
Stay tuned.
