Aaron Altherr leaves Phillies to see hand specialist

While the Philadelphia Phillies were able to pull out a win against the New York Yankees this afternoon, they got some less than positive news as outfielder Aaron Altherr left the team to see a specialist for an injury he suffered last week.

Altherr left Friday's game against the Atlanta Braves after suffering a wrist injury. Since Friday, there's been little word on his injury, other than him telling Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer that as of Saturday he hadn't had X-Rays. He was also quick to point out in that interview that he thought he would be 'alright'.

Altherr returning to Philadelphia doesn't necessarily mean that the Phillies fear that he's suffered a serious injury, though him leaving Florida before there's any word of him having an X-Ray doesn't seem like an encouraging sign.

In related news, Cody Asche told Gregg Murphy of Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia during today's telecast that he expects to return to game action next week after suffering an oblique strain. It's unclear if by 'next week' he was referring to later this week or what would actually be next week, but if Altherr is out for an extended period of time, Asche could benefit in the form of more playing time.
