Carl Landry is taking advantage of his limited minutes with Sixers

With Jahlil Okafor missing two games due to injury and Nerlens Noel and Richaun Holmes getting in foul trouble during those games, Carl Landry has gotten some significant minutes.

Making the most out of his 18 minutes versus the Wizards, Landry went 6-of-8 from the floor, shooting 75 percent, and finishing the night with 15 points.

In Carl’s 14 minutes against the Hornets, he shot 50 percent, ending the game with nine points.

Landry’s always reliable elbow jumper had really helped keep the Sixers in their last two games, as well as his ball handling; he only turned the ball over once, which is extremely important for a team that leads the league in turnovers.

Carl Landry can always be seen on the bench cheering on his teammates, celebrating with Kendall Marshall, and giving advice to his young counterparts. It should not be forgotten, however, that the veteran still has a lot to give on the court, and can still make good contributions to the Sixers, when given the opportunity.

"I'm staying ready," said Landry, who has averaged 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 11.4 minutes in 18 appearances. "A lot of the stuff that I do, obviously, you guys don't see it. I'm at the gym every day taking care of my body, working with Elton, working with Kendall [Marshall] and the other guys who don't play, and they are pushing me.

Being the second oldest player on the team, and the oldest to make game time contributions, it is important that Landry utilize the minutes he does get to show his teammates that he practices what he preaches. The oldest player on the team, Elton Brand, hasn’t played a minute yet, but he’s already gotten a technical foul. Now that is veteran leadership.

"He's a great professional player," said Elton Brand, another veteran power forward. ". . . He's there every day, never sulks. He's a total pro. He just never gets the opportunity, and when he does, he plays great. Offense, defense, he plays great."  [Philly.com]

The Sixers acquired Landry in a trade with the Sacramento Kings last July that also brought Nik Stauskas and a draft pick to Philadelphia. While some believed the Sixers might waive Landry, he's been a valuable asset in many ways.
