The Flyers have not been very active, in trade talks or even the rumor mill, in the days leading up to the trade deadline.

But on Saturday night, the team has made a move of a different kind.

The Flyers announced a multi-year extension for forward Colin McDonald, currently with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, GM Ron Hextall announced.

McDonald, 31, has served as the Phantoms captain this season and has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 33 games. McDonald has also had two separate stints with the Flyers, scoring one goal in five total games.

The deal likely comes to provide some veteran forward depth in the minors while providing the Phantoms with a stable captain for the foreseeable future.

McDonald joined the Flyers organization this season on a two-way, one-year contract after spending three seasons with the New York Islanders organization.
