The Flyers have already participated in two outdoor games in their franchise history, serving as the opponent of the Boston Bruins in the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park and hosting the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park.

It appears the Flyers next outdoor game is not far away.

According to an ESPN report, a Flyers-Penguins outdoor game will happen in 2017. While it is not determined whether this game will be the Winter Classic or part of the Stadium Series, the game will be held in Pittsburgh, likely at Heinz Field.

But do not be disappointed, because it looks like Philadelphia will get their chance to host as well. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Flyers would host the second half of the home-and-home in 2019, likely at Lincoln Financial Field.

For several years now, the idea of a Flyers-Penguins Winter Classic held at Beaver Stadium on the campus of Penn State University in State College, Pa. sounded like a distinct possibility. However, there are no plans of that according to the Post-Gazette's report.

The 2016 Winter Classic took place on New Year's Day at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough and two other Stadium Series games are schedule. The Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild will play at TCF Bank Stadium in Minnesota on Feb. 21 and the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings will play at Coors Field in Denver on Feb. 27.
