Last season, guard Jordan McRae was one of the few Sixers overseas draft picks that fans were keeping track of as a potential future member of the team. After being selected by the Spurs and then flipped to Philadelphia on 2014 draft night, the 24-year-old decided to spend the season in Australia, where he played for Melbourne United and finished third in scoring, 11th in steals, 12th in blocks and 13th in assists in Australia’s National Basketball League. He joined the Sixers D-League team for the final 13 games of their season in 2014-15. During the preseason of this year, McRae didn't make the Sixers roster and was waived in October.
This past Tuesday, McRae made headlines after breaking the D-League single-game scoring record with 61 points in the Sevens 130-1232 overtime win against the Canton Charge. He scored those points on 21-for-34 shooting while also hitting 16 of his 18 free throws. He added 11 rebounds and seven assists as well. Highlight's of his performance here:
McRae's performance was enough to get some NBA attention as the Phoenix Suns moved in and signed him to a 10-day contract as of last Friday, the 29th. McRae made his debut for the Suns the day he was signed, against the Knicks and made a nice impact in the 102-84 loss in New York. The Savannah, GA native scored 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting. He also had four assists, two rebounds and a steal. On Sunday, McRae scored four points, had a rebound and an assist in Phoenix's 91-78 loss to Dallas.
This season for the Delaware 87ers, McRae was averaging 23.1 points, 5.2 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 35.5 minutes per game.
