Just two games remain in this year's thrilling World Juniors tournament, and while some Flyers may have to settle for the bronze medal, two will have the opportunity to earn gold medals.
Oskar Lindblom, Felix Sandstrom and Sweden will take on USA for the bronze medal, after falling 2-1 to Finland on Monday. While Rasmus Asplund put Tre Kronor up 1-0 midway through the first, second-period tallies from Roope Hintz and Antti Kalapudas put Finland up 2-1, which they would not relinquish. Kasperi Kapanen, son of beloved former Flyer Sami Kapanen, set both goals up.
Finland's defense also limited Sweden to as few chances as possible, as Tre Kronor mustered just three shots in the third period. As a result, Finland will be looking to claim the gold medal for the second time since 2014.
Provorov and Fazleev were both held off the scoresheet as Russia edged USA 2-1. Ilya Samsonov added a brilliant 26-save. The Russians will be playing in the gold-medal game for the second-consecutive season, and fourth since their last gold victory in 2011.
TSN will have full coverage for Canadian viewers beginning with the bronze-medal game at 9 a.m. ET. The gold-medal game will follow at 12:30. NHL Network will have coverage for American viewers.
