The Phillies have been relatively quiet since the Ken Giles trade and the Rule 5 draft, but today they added to their offensive depth in their system, signing 27-year-old outfielder Cedric Hunter to a minor league deal with an invitation to Major League spring training.

Hunter, drafted in the third round of the 2006 draft, has spent the last two season in the Braves organization. He elected free agency back in early November and could very well be a starting outfielder for the Ironpigs right out of the gates. Hunter could prove to be useful if injuries happen at the Major League level to the Phils as he offers not only solid defensive work, but a power bat as well.

Last season with Triple-A Gwinnett, Hunter hit .283 with 21 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 52 runs scored and 77 RBIs. He led the G-Braves in homers (12) and RBIs (77) while finishing second on the team in both runs (52) and average (.283). His RBI number was good for sixth in the International League.

Hunter has played in six big league games after making the Opening Day roster for San Diego in 2011, but hasn't played in the big leagues since.
