WJC Report: Quarterfinal matchups are set

Seven Flyers prospects headed to Helsinki for this year's World Juniors tournament, and as the preliminary round comes to a close, all seven will be playing in this weekend's quarterfinal round. All prospects were active on Thursday, in a day that included a thrilling matchup between four Flyers prospects.

Canada

Travis Konecny played a spirited, aggressive game, but he and Travis Sanheim were ultimately held off the scoresheet as Canada fell 5-2 to Sweden. Konecny finished with three shots on goal, while Sanheim took none.  Canada, as the third-place finishers in Group A, will advance to the quarterfinal round and face Finland on Saturday.

Sweden

Oskar Lindblom recorded no points and one shot on goal in Sweden's 5-2 win over Canada, while Felix Sandstrom allowed no goals in 3:49 of game play. As the winners of Group A, Tre Kronor will face Slovakia in Saturday's quarterfinal

Russia

Ivan Provorov assisted on Artur Lauta's first-period goal, which was the first in Russia's 2-1 win over Slovakia. Provorov also finished with two shots, while Radel Fazleev finished with one.  Through four games, Provorov has four assists, while Fazleev has a goal and an assist. Russia finished first in Group B, and will play Denmark in the quarterfinal.

Czech Republic

David Kase recorded no points as the Czech Republic fell 5-4 to Finland. The Czech Republic will now go on to face Team USA in Saturday's quarterfinal.

There will be no WJC Report on Friday, as no games will be taking place. It will return on Saturday, as the playoffs continue to unfold.
