NFC East Update: Current standings and clinching scenarios for Eagles
The early games of Week 15 are in the books. The two rivals that shared first place with the Eagles in the NFC East on Sunday have completed their games, giving a clearly picture to the Eagles task at hand with still three games remaining.
The Washington Redskins claimed a 35-25 victory over the Buffalo Bills behind huge days for Kirk Cousins and DeSean Jackson. The New York Giants rallied from a 35-7 deficit against the undefeated Carolina Panthers to tie the score with under two minutes to play, but the Panthers got a last-second field goal to stay perfect at 14-0, sending the Giants to a 38-35 loss.
The Eagles are definitely in the driver's seat, despite Washington holding at least a share of the NFC East lead.
Here are the current standings:
Redskins – 7-7 (2-2 NFC East)
Eagles – 6-7 (2-2 NFC East)
Giants – 6-8 (2-3 NFC East)
Here are the ways the Eagles can clinch the division in the coming weeks.
If the Eagles win on Sunday night against the Cardinals, they can clinch the NFC East with a win over the Redskins next Saturday.
If the Eagles lose on Sunday night to the Cardinals, they can still clinch the division with wins over both the Redskins and Giants in Week 17.
The NFC East will go through Philadelphia in Week 16, as an Eagles loss to the Redskins will clinch the NFC East for Washington and eliminate the Eagles from playoff contention.
