Former Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee has been medically cleared; may pitch in 2016

Former Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee seemed headed for retirement.  Lee said as much, indicating that he would probably retire after his deal that just ended this offseason after a $12.5 million buyout.  Despite having missed all of 2015 and most of 2014 with an elbow injury, Lee may give pitching another shot after all.

Jon Heyman of CBS Reports:

What that "fit" might be is unclear.

Lee opted for rest instead of surgery, which seemed to be the biggest indication that Lee would retire.  The Phillies seemed to move on, already issuing Lee's number 33 jersey to new bullpen coach Rick Kranitz.   The Phillies might not be the team to take a flyer on Lee; they are likely looking for reliable innings while the Phillies prospects develop.  Any team who signs Lee would be signing a question mark.
