The Flyers have recalled forward Colin McDonald from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, GM Ron Hextall announced on Tuesday.

McDonald, who had served as the team captain in Lehigh Valley, recently returned from injury after going down in the Phantoms season opener. He has one assist in four games with the Phantoms.

McDonald, 31, had 43 points in 133 games with the New York Islanders in the last three seasons.

The move is likely due to the injury suffered by Sam Gagner in Monday night's overtime win against Carolina. While there was no official update on Gagner, he is expected to be further evaluated by team doctors on Wednesday before an update is given. He suffered what was called an upper-body injury in the first period of Monday's game.

The Flyers are traveling to Brooklyn to face the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
