It took him 18 games, but Samuel Morin has registered his professional goal, as he opened the scoring in the first period of Sunday's 5-2 win over the Providence Bruins.
Uniquely, no Phantoms (8-9-1-0) registered a multi-point game. Twelve different players recorded a point, while the Bruins' Seth Griffith was the only player on the ice to record two points — scoring a goal at 1:43 of the second period and setting Matt Irwin up at 2:39 of the third.
Danick Martel recorded his seventh of the season at 10:31 of the second stanza. Kevin Goumas (3:43), captain Tim Brent (shorthanded at 14:11) and Petr Straka (on an empty net with 23 seconds to play) all scored in the third period, to give the Phantoms their second win over the P-Bruins this weekend.
With 12 goals, Straka now has sole possession of the league's lead. It also improved his goal-scoring streak to six-consecutive games.
In his third (and best) start of the weekend, Anthony Stolarz stopped 33 of 35 pucks. The Bruins' Zane McIntyre was torched with 16 saves on 20 shots.
Both teams were also 0-for on the power play, with the Phantoms scoreless on eight opportunities and the Bruins (4-9-3-1) scoreless on five.
For those keeping score at home, the Phantoms now have three-consecutive wins over the Bruins, and have won three of four meetings in their season series. They will meet again on Saturday, as the Bruins visit Allentown's PPL Center.
The Phantoms are out of action until Wednesday, when they visit the Utica Comets (led by ex-Flyer Robert Esche) in the penultimate game of their four-game road trip.
