Roman Quinn hit .306 before injuring his hamstring this season in Double-A

With the deadline approaching this evening for teams to protect players from the Rule-5 draft, the Phillies have added outfielder Roman Quinn along with pitchers Jimmy Cordero and Edubray Ramos to the 40-man roster so they can not be taken in the draft.

Quinn, 22, hit .306 in Double-A this season before going down with a hamstring injury that kept him out of action from June 12th until the end of the year. Before going down, Quinn led the Eastern League in steals with 29. In Baseball America's recent offseason rankings, Quinn came in as the eighth best prospect in the Phillies organization.

Jimmy Cordero came to the Phillies organization in the trade that sent Ben Revere to Toronto. Cordero isn't listed on the Phillies top 10 list, though his fastball tops out in triple digits. The 24-year-old right-hander could be the guy who takes over the Phillies future closer role if they were to part ways with Ken Giles in the coming years, but for the time being, he'll sharpen his command in the minors. He posted a 2.12 ERA in 17 innings for Double-A Reading last season while holding opposing hitters to a .193 average.

22-year-old Edubray Ramos was the final farm hand added to the Phillies 40-man roster prior to the Rule-5 deadline. Between Advanced 'A' and Double-A this season, Ramos went 4-6 with a 2.07 ERA in 47 games, spanning 69.2 innings. He tallied 65 strikeouts this season as well. Ramos, along with Phillies top prospect Andrew Knapp, represented the team in the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars game. He struck out two in two-thirds of an inning of work. He struggled for the most part in the Fall League though, allowing eight earned runs in 9.2 innings on the mound.
