When the Eagles sent Nick Foles to St. Louis with a second round pick for Sam Bradford, many fans believed that the birds would get the raw end of the deal. They'd be right, but the thing is that Foles isn't the reason why they got the raw end of the deal, it's because they included a pick to acquire oft-injured QB Sam Bradford. Nine games into the season, Sam Bradford hasn't developed any sort of consistency and is sidelined with a concussion. Meanwhile, Nick Foles has been benched for backup Case Keenum.
This season, Nick Foles has completed 56.6% of his passes for seven touchdowns, six interceptions and 1,678 yards. His inability to fluently run the Rams offense has caused head coach Jeff Fisher to tab Keenum as the starter, having only started 10 career games in the league over four seasons.
“We’re going to go ahead and go with [Keenum],” Fisher told reporters Monday, per Wagoner. “This is my decision. Nobody came down the hall and said, ‘This is what we need to do.’ The lack of offensive production is a collective effort and coaching. But we need more production, and it starts with that position.
“I don’t expect Nick to like it,” Fisher continued to tell reporters. “He’s competitive, but he understands, and we’re gonna move forward here. I’m not saying this is week-to-week, but this is what’s best right now for our team as we move forward, from a production standpoint offensively.” [PhillyMag.com]
Foles was 0-12 when it came to passes over 10 yards in Sunday's 37-13 loss to the Bears. He finished 17-for-36 for 200 yards. Foles ranks towards the bottom of the league in plenty of categories, including 32nd in QB rating (34.1), 29th in passer rating (75.9) and 28th in passing yards with 1,678.
In 10 games for the Texans over the past two seasons, undrafted free agent Case Keenum has thrown for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 55.2% of his passes. He played in just two games for Houston last season.
Eagles signal caller Sam Bradford is expected to miss the team's upcoming game against the Bucs after showing a growing comfort level in Chip Kelly's offense. He got the Eagles out to a 16-3 lead in the first quarter, but unfortunately Miami staged a comeback to win, 20-19. Bradford has completed 63.9% of his passes this season for 2,297 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Though the quarterback swap may be a draw for this trade, the Eagles continue to be viewed as the losers here after including a second round pick with Foles to bring Bradford to Philadelphia. It's safe to say neither team got what they were hoping for from this deal.
