Eagles release linebacker Brad Jones, re-sign Julian Vandervelde

The Philadelphia Eagles released linebacker Brad Jones on Wednesday.

The Eagles signed the 29-year-old Jones in the offseason after he was let go by the Green Bay Packers. He played mostly on special teams, but he had the ability to play at both the inside and outside linebacker positions.

According to Brandon Lee Gowton, Jones was healthy and inactive for the Eagles Week 9 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. He had five total tackles on the season.

To fill Jones' spot on the 53-man roster, the team also re-signed offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde. Vandervelde signs on the dotted line to play with the Eagles for the sixth time since being drafted by the team in fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

The team signed Vandervelde because backup offensive lineman Josh Andrews suffered a concussion in Wednesday's practice, and he will not be able to play on Sunday afternoon against the Miami Dolphins
