New Phillies GM Matt Klentak: “I would not have left Mike Trout in his prime to come here if I didn’t think we could win”

The Phillies introduced their newest general manager on Monday morning, the same day the Phillies executives head to Clearwater for their organizational meetings.  Matt Klentak is the 11th general manager in the history of the Phillies.   Klentak, at 35 years old, is the team's youngest in club history.   President Andy MacPhail, Klentak, and part-owner John Middleton were present for Monday's press conference.

Klentak opened the press conference offering thanks to many, including the baseball operations staff in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, including owner Arte Moreno, former assistant general manager Scott Servais (now manager of the Mariners) and former general manager Bill Stoneman.  Klentak thanked his 

Klentak gave a thank you to outgoing general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr., especially for his trade deadline moves that will move the organization forward:

"I want to thank Ruben Amaro.  I want to acknowledge what Ruben did…more specifically this summer. I know it was a difficult situation… I think he did a marvelous job restructuring the organization."
