PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Phillies have officially announced the hiring of Matt Klentak as the team's new vice president and general manager.
Klentak, 35, is the team's 11th and youngest general manager in franchise history, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
The following were released statements from Klentak and team president Andy MacPhail regarding the hiring.
Klentak:

MacPhail:
"In Matt we found an executive with the keen ability to understand cutting-edge baseball analytics, coupled with superior scouting, player development and leadership skills. …
Additionally, his commitment and resolve to build the foundation for a championship-caliber team was evident every step of the way through the process. I trust Matt to lead the Phillies as we all rededicate ourselves to return championship baseball to Philadelphia."
An introductory press conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Citizens Bank Park, before the Phillies disembark to Clearwater, Florida to begin their organizational meetings.
