Chip Kelly USC Rumors

The Philadelphia Eagles and the University of Southern California football teams both haven't lived up to their high expectations this year.

A Sports Illustrated report on Thursday indicated that if USC were to fire head coach Steve Sarkisian after the season, they would consider to replace him with the Eagles head coach Chip Kelly.

Kelly's Eagles have gotten off to a slow start at 1-3 on the season, but he will likely be given a pass this year, even with all of the rosters moves made in the offseason. Kelly has been given so much power by Eagles team owner Jeffrey Lurie that it seems unlikely that the third-year coach would choose to go back to coaching in the college ranks.

However, Kelly was regarded as one of the best college football coaches in the country during his tenure at the University of Oregon. He led the Ducks to a 46-7 record over a four-year span.

As for Sarkisian, he certainly might be on the hot seat. The Trogans were ranked in the top 10 in the nation by the AP going into this season. They lost their second game of the season last night to the University of Washington. As of now, USC is ranked 17th.

Sarkisian's off-field incident in which he appeared to be drunk at a booster event doesn't necessarily help his case.

If Kelly continues to struggle in Philadelphia this year, reports similar to this likely won't stop. Big-name colleges such as USC and the University of Texas would be quite intrigued to hire Kelly as their football coach.

Kelly looks to help pull his team out of the mud on Sunday afternoon, as the Eagles battle the New Orleans Saints at Lincoln Financial Field.
