Hello again and welcome back to Between the Pipes, looking at Flyers hockey and the hockey world through linkage. With the preseason now complete, the focus shifts to preparing for the start of the regular season. Here are a couple of stories worth noting.

Flyers adjusting to Dave Hakstol's system as preseason ends with loss – [Dave Isaac – Courier-Post]

The Flyers closed out the preseason with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Devils, and after jumping off to a 3-1-0 record following last Friday's win over the Islanders at home, the Flyers closed everything out with a 3-2-2 record. It is a learning experience for the Flyers, who are adjusting to new head coach Dave Hakstol's system. But at the same time, the final three games didn't show many signs of promise for this team with just five days to go until the games count. Needing to avoid another slow start, it certainly appears the Flyers have a lot to work on.

Bernie Parent gets Canadian stamp – [Randy Miller – NJ.com]

Flyers legend and Hall of Fame goalie Bernie Parent was one of six goalies selected to have a commemorative Canadian stamp. Parent joined Martin Brodeur, Johnny Bower, Ken Dryden, Tony Esposito and Gump Worsley as the six goaltenders to receive the honor. Canada Post produced the stamps and acknowledged "their on-ice brilliance left an indelible impression on a nation. They are an important part of our country's rich history."

Chris Porter's scores goal after being waived - [Jeff Neiburg – Philly.com]

One of the more comical moments of Wednesday's game was Chris Porter's goal. Playing in the game after being placed on waivers earlier in the afternoon, Porter said after the game that it was actually not the first time he played a preseason game after being placed on waivers. It is seldom seen, but as a result of the 24-hour claiming period, Porter was allowed to play for the Flyers in Wednesday's game. On Thursday, after scoring in the game Wednesday night, he was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Wild.
