The Philadelphia Eagles officially placed starting right guard Andrew Gardner and kicker Cody Parkey on injured reserve Tuesday morning.
Both players got injured in a Week 3 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. Parkey injured his groin during pregame warm ups. Whereas Gardner suffered a Lisfranc injury in his foot during the game.
Parkey and Gardner join JaCorey Shepherd, Travis Long and David Molk as members of the team's injured reserve.
On Monday, the Eagles signed former Miami Dolphins kicker Caleb Sturgis to replace Parkey. The 26-year-old Sturgis made 55 of 71 field goal attempts during his two-year stint with the Dolphins.
Gardner started eight games for the Eagles last season, and won the starting right guard position during training camp. The Eagles signed him to a three-year contract extension prior to the start of this season.
Matt Tobin is projected to replace Gardner in the starting lineup. In 2014, Tobin started five games at left guard and two games at right guard for the Eagles.
Although the offensive line showed signs of improvement against the Jets, the unit hasn't played particularly well early on this season. Both starting guards from 2014, Evan Mathis and Todd Herremans, were cut in the offseason. The Indianapolis Colts benched Herremans after two games this year, and Mathis currently starts for the Denver Broncos.
To fill Gardner's spot on the roster, the Eagles have re-signed offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde. This is Vandervelde's eight stint with the Eagles since he was drafted in 2011. In fact, this is the third time that the Eagles have signed him this year.
