Pope Francis is coming to town for the 2015 World Meeting of Families, an International conference in the Catholic Church that will be taking place in Philadelphia this year. The Phillies have gotten in on the celebration, or at least using the rare occasion to sell tickets.
The Phillies website describes the giveaway:
Phillies Pope Francis Rookie Card: In honor of Pope Francis' upcoming visit to celebrate the World Meeting of Families Congress, fans may pick up a commemorative Phillies Pope Francis Rookie Card at the First Base and Third Base Kiosks. Other information about his visit to Philadelphia will also be available. Fans are reminded to follow NBC10 for all their Pope Francis coverage.
The game is schedule for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday against the Washington Nationals.
The last visit from the leader of the Catholic Church came in 1979, when Pope John Paul II visited the City of Brotherly Love.
