Cardinals acquire Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley for conditional 7th-round pick

According to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer, the Arizona Cardinals have reportedly acquired Philadelphia Eagles' backup quarterback Matt Barkley in exchange for a conditional, seventh-round pick.

In four career games, Barkley was 30 for 50 in completions, throwing for 300 yards and four interceptions. Three of these four interceptions occurred during his NFL debut on October 20, 2013 against the Dallas Cowboys.

This preseason in particular, Barkley largely disappointed.

In Thursday evening's preseason finale at MetLife Stadium, Barkley had just a 20.4 passer rating, throwing 4-for-9 with 45 yards and an interception.

Barkley's competition on the other hand, Tim Tebow out of of the University of Florida, threw for two touchdowns over 189 yards.

Tebow will now likely survive roster cuts and remain on the roster with just two other quarterbacks in front of him, Sam Bradford and Sanchez.

G.J. Kinne, a former quarterback-turned-wide receiver on the Eagles, was cut from the team on Sunday.

Philadelphia signed Tebow on April 19 to much criticism by Eagles fans. His recent play, however, was all that head coach Chip Kelly needed to sure-up his spot on the 53-man roster.

On August 6, Kelly said that Tebow 'has a lot of skills that a lot of other quarterbacks don't have.'

What Tebow's role and or level of contribution will be throughout the 2015 season is not yet known, however it is believed that Kelly will use the 28-year-old, 2007 Heisman Trophy winner in short-yard situations, such as on two-point conversion tries.

Barkley's trade to the Cardinals places him behind veteran quarterback Carson Palmer, as well as Drew Stanton.

Tearing his ACL last season, Palmer's health is clearly a concern of head coach Bruce Arians, given his acquisition of Barkley.

Barkley's trade out west will put him much closer to his hometown of Newport Beach, California.
